About the Project

LA 121 – The home with nature at its core

As we designed LA121 as a conceptual project, we particularly emphasized creating a functional scheme that can accommodate diverse needs. The three-story building can also be planned as two stories: as ground floor and upper floor, or as ground floor and basement floor if desired.

Also, one can turn the basement into a section independent from the other floors without disturbing the visual integrity thanks to the separators and doors placed on terraces.

We have designed LA121 to offer three different living spaces that can be tailored to user needs. We call them “optimum,” “comfort” and “luxury.” Here we share the “luxury” version of LA121 with the largest living space option.

Located on a 1,400 square-meter plot (the minimum requirement for this alternative), the project’s total construction area stands at 740 square meters on three floors excluding terraces: 250 square meters on the ground floor, 230 square meters on the upper floor and 260 square meters on the basement floor.

The ground floor consists of the main hall, kitchen, garage, living room, technical room, bathroom, and a 140 square-meter ground terrace surrounding these spaces from three sides. The upper floor includes a master suite, a guest suite, two rooms, a bathroom, and a laundry room. And the basement consists of a multi-space office suite, wine cellar, spa, gym, pool bar, and bathroom spaces.

LA121 is a detached house concept centered on an element of nature that emotionally supports life inside. Called the “Tree of Life” of the house, this element is positioned between the main hall and the ground terrace. The Tree of Life has a visual relationship with almost all spaces as it is intended to be a part of the life in the house. We call the main hall the “Hall of Life” due to its visual relationship with the Tree of Life.

On the ground floor, the entrance door opens directly into the Hall of Life. The Hall of Life is a passage space that connects all spaces directly or indirectly, but its volume and location transform it into what is more than just a place to pass through; evoking the feeling of life once you are in it, this space supports the visual and emotional relationship of the household. The daily living space, kitchen, garage, and other spaces of the house are located on the right and left sides of this hall.

The partly open and covered ground terrace surrounds the ground floor on three sides, capable of becoming fully integrated with the daily living area and the kitchen thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows. Also, the retractable tilting louvered roof systems placed on the parts of the covered terraces in front of these spaces allow solar control, while enabling them to benefit from uninterrupted sunlight.

In a visual relationship with the Tree of Life, the bridge on the upper floor provides access to the master suite and guest suite over the Hall of Life. The two rooms on this floor differ from the others with their bathrooms. Moreover, we designed the two quite spacious bedrooms and a bathroom for children, the other inhabitants of the house.

The main space on the basement floor is the office suite, which consists of two separate rooms, a bathroom, and a small kitchen. Thanks to two separate entrances to the office from the hallway, users can turn part of it into a completely independent guest suite when needed. On the same façade, the office suite and wine cellar can be completely integrated with the hall thanks to the glass doors and partitions.

At the end of the hall, there is a bar associated with the pool on the front façade, followed by a bathroom, spa, and gym. This entire section is separated from the other spaces by a door opening from the hall, providing a controlled passage when necessary.

Even in circumstances with limited control over the garden on the entrance side due to the characteristics of the land, the garden on the upper level and the garden with the pool on the lower level can be kept private thanks to separators and gates as well as the landscaping support starting at the terrace entrances.

DESIGN NOTE:

In our building designs, we always first evaluate the space needs and try to establish the relationships between these spaces properly. The emerging indoor and outdoor spaces form different volumes. The masses arising from the building elements such as slabs, walls, and others surrounding these volumes are important pieces of data shaping the design.

We pursue a certain balance while establishing the relationships between the resulting masses. We strive to support the impact of such mass composition with elements such as material and color. In general, we use contemporary, simple, and calm language in design and material selection, and avoid using dysfunctional decorative elements. We design as we feel - by adding our spirit.

We followed the same path in the design of LA121. With minimal lines and details, we created a calm, balanced but also striking design that appeals to the soul.
